This past week, Husband and I went to a class on Square Foot Gardening-a method developed by Mel Bartholomew. It got me very excited about gardening. Basically SFG is an above-ground gardening method that you plant in groupings instead of rows, thereby increasing production in a smaller area. I think the real secret to how great these SFG gardens turn out is the soil: Mel's Mix. It is a combination of equal parts peat moss, compost, and vermiculite. The reason this has gotten me so excited about gardening is because it seems like an easy, non-overwhelming method of gardening that produces beautiful results. Please check out the website here for more information.
Here is a little video about SFG (taken from Mel's website...seriously, go visit it!)

So are you going to try it? I think it sounds like a great idea... for someday! Right now we have a "perfectly good garden as it is" and I can't justify the expense. Someday we'll be out of school though!
